Imagine a normal windy day. Got that image in your head? Okay, now multiply it by 10 and you will have the CRAZY windy evening session in Owensboro, KY that served as the backdrop for Blue’s Senior pictures. All day I had been watching the weather reports as the chance for storms were likely to arrive near our meeting time. Thankfully the storms stayed off to the north in Indiana and we ended up with sunny, blue skies + a whole lot of wind. Blue laughed her way through the session and even in the windiest of moments she was able to work her hair and dress like a pro.
Looking back through this shoot, I’m struck by how it is a fun mix of modern and retro. If I were piling in the perfect ingredients, we had them all! Old barn, open fields, and windy day paired with her ruby red slippers, blue and white striped dress, and vintage styled hair. It was almost like we took Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and made her modern and fresh. The fact that we had the chance to shoot on the property of a historic farmhouse only added to the Dorothy-like vibes.
Although Dorothy might say, “There is no place like home,” Blue has her eyes set on attending Murray State University after graduating from Daviess County High School. She plans to major in Creative Writing and would love to one day become a college professor. This DCHS Senior spends her time writing poetry, drinking Dr. Pepper, and falling asleep to the radio. Two items worth noting about Blue include her endearing love for her grandmother and the fact that she will volunteer her time at Prom to serve the special needs students that she works with at school.
I wish you the best in this next season of life, Blue! Don’t lose your passion for life and your deep love for those around you!
